My first publication in Super Model Magazine.

The new issue of Super Model  contains a 6-page article about my Staghound AA in Polish! The magazine should be on sale next week and as usual it has a lot of great models and tech tips inside.  I actually took an extra set of images for that publication so they are different from those that were published in MMI. The editor did a great job and I hope that my friends in Poland would enjoy the article.

Forthcoming publications.

Next on the list are showreports.
In January issue of MMI there is a big report from Scale Model Challenge competition and in February issue - from C4-OPEN.
Here is a content page of January issue with the announcement of next one.

Otherwise I am busy with building Flakpanzer - all those tiny PE parts make me mad....

And don't miss that one - Radek Pituch, a talented modeller and a friend is working on a figure for my Zrinyi II model.

On my bench, November.

This week I decided to start a new kit - Flakpanzer I from Dragon with huge Lion Roar PE set and Alliance Model Works correct metal barrel. I also took some bits from Tristar to fill in the engine compartment. As you may notice there are some gaps after installation of PE fenders and this is basically because the plastic variant was much thicker. But no worries, I will fix that later on :)

Another model that I decided to finish is StuG III Ausf. G initial. It was sitting in the box from last year review build but now I finally can work on it a bit. Here the tricky thing is to make fenders appropriate for that version and I mix 2 sets from Voyager - for Ausf G. and for Ausf. F8. Soldering...soldering..soldering... let's see how it will turn out at the end.

And for dessert - 2 pictures of my latest finished model - 1/48 Bronco Staghound Mk.I with 60 lbs rockets.  Thanks to Ron Volstad for reference material and to Nicholas Perry for providing the jeep backrest part.

Small, but dangerous :)

Here is the cover

And here is a page preview. Looking forward to reading it.

During the last weekend I was in Malmø, Sweden, taking part in Sweden's best competition (IMHO). I had great time there, talking with old and new friends, examining excellent models and got some medals too!

Bison II - gold in 1/35 Axis WWII AFV
Staghound Mk. III - silver in 1/48 AFV
Staghound AA - silver in 1/48 AFV
and Zrinyi II  - bronze in advanced 1/35 AFV class (this is mostly for conversions and scratch built models)

Now I will take a long brake from shows and will go somewhere next autumn only.

Back to work!

Zrinyi II, done....

That model is done and it was a great experience. I learned a lot not only about the particular SPG but about Hungarian army and armour and I am happy to have collaborations on the project with so many people.
Thanks to Pálinkás Zsolt and Adam Romsits for technical help, Maxim Butov for going to Kubinka and taking pictures of survivor vehicle, Csaba Bordács from SBS model for providing the mantlet, Carlos Bravo for generous help with spare tracks, Krisztián Bódi for producing excellent Hungarian crew figures (I plan to add one next week) and to David Grummit from MMI for the kit and endless support. The full article with some reference material and explanation of modifications would appear in MMI in due time.

Now some images of the finished model. Hope you like it.

Back from Scale Model Challenge 2012.

This weekend I spent at Veldhoven, Holland, taking part in Scale Model Challenge - a meeting that gathers high-class modellers from all over the Europe. It was a great experience and I am glad to get a medal for my Staghound AA (bronze in 1/48 scale vehicles).

Another thing - when I was home today I found a copy of November issue of Military Modelcraft International that has a 6-page article for the same Stag. As always, the team of MMI did a top-notch job on presenting a model in it's best. Thanks for that!

On my bench, October 2012.

Right now I have two projects in the paint booth, both from Bronco models

1) Staghound Mk.I with 60lb rockets.  Mostly OOB build with added weld seams. Pure fun project with some interesting ideas on paint finish.

2) More demanding and accurate model in 1/35 scale Zrinyi II Hungarian SPG. The build is over now and I am happy to say that it looks quite close to references. If you've seen my previous update it was almost ready to paint but then I changed the mantlet on the one from SBS model. And then primed the model.

Rolling to the paint booth :)

November issue of Military Modelcraft International is featuring my Staghound AA in 1/48 from Bronco models with Black Dog and Hauler stowage. Check it out together with awesome builds from Ken Abrams, Özgür Güner and others.

A full build review of that excellent kit can be seen here.

Crusader III final images.

This model was done withing the Tamiya group build at 1/48 discussion group.  I started it before the vacation and the assembly was finished within 2 hours :) Then it took some time to paint it and weather appropriately and then I changed the light set-up. Now I am happy with images I got and would like to share the results with visitors of my blog.

I would like to thank Josh Emery for help with the kit, Mike Starmer for explanation of disruptive scheme and proper colours and quarterscale fellows from
ps. the woodgrain is a decal from Alex, better known as Uschi van der Rosten.

Advance on Zrinyi II.

I am almost done with my Zrinyi II. As you can see from these 2 images I reworked the original kit a bit - removed front mud flaps and detailed the sprocket area, scratched spare track holder, tool clamps, tow cable holders and hooks for mesh screens. Also the battle damage as per reference images is replicated - torn mesh screen, distorted hooks, torn support roller. The more I work on that one the more I like it.

Hope to get some paint on it during the weekend!

This weekend I spent in Sweden, taking part in the competition called Art in Miniature that gathers talented modellers from all over the country. I had 8 models with me, and 5 were awarded!

Bison II - gold in AFV 1/35 Axis;
Staghound AA - gold in AFV 1/48;
Staghound Mk.III - bronze in AFV 1/48;
Wirbelwind - bronze in AFV 1/35 Axis.
That was a blast!

Bison II - another publication, now in Russian!

Surprise! New issue of M-hobby (biggest Russian language hobby magazine) put my Bison II on the cover! That's really cool, because it is distributed all over Russia through small post kiosks!

The article is called "The stubborn Bison" and it is basically the same as in the September issue of MMI.

P.s. Crusader III is finished. I will take more images later. Here I used Uschi van der Rosten  woodgrain decals to replicate wood texture on jack blocks.

P.p.s. :) Sd.Kfz. 6 scored 1st in this months Armorama model of the month contest. That was a tight competition with only 5 votes between 1st and 3rd place! Almost as in sports :)

Zrínyi II started, Crusader in progress.

This week I started a very interesting kit - Hungarian SPG from Bronco. The kit has insane level of detail, but of course there is room for improvement :)

The toughest element is the suspension and you can see how much has to be cut and glued. Luckily there is not that much clean up required :)
I will do a specific vehicle based on reference images and correct the kit according to survivor vehicle from Kubinka museum. Stay tuned for more!

Otherwise, my 1/48 Crusader is almost done, just needs some final weathering.

DAK attakk :)

By coincidence I did two models related to Deutsches Afrikakorps in a row this winter -  Sd.Kfz.6 and Bison II. Sd.Kfz.6 was waiting for it's turn since September 2011 and Bison pop-uped at my bench in February. The half-track was done OOB, while Bison got extra detailing with Alliance Model Works excellent PE as well as some of Griffon's PE for Grille. Both got the replication of heavily damaged paint (by different methods) and by another coincidence both are published in September issues of modelling magazines :)

The Bison II article is out in Military Modelcraft International and is called "The stubborn Bison". Take a look inside the mag and you will know why it has such name :)

...and Sd.Kfz.6 is feautured in Military in Scale.  I haven't got my copy yet I got a screenshot from a fellow modeller from Norway - Edward Valholm (takk til deg).

Having fun with quarterscale, Crusader Mk. III

After email conversation with Mike Starmer I decided to go for Dark Green/Desert Pink/White camo. Mike was very kind and provided me the original scheme from October 1942. The paints are Tamiya, mixing formulas are also from Mike Starmer.
I did masking with Blu-tack and tape. Result is not ideal, but I like it. I feel that the green tone is a bit too dark, but I think I would be able to weather it appropriate way.

Bison II will appear in Septembers issue of MMI!

MMI just posted the content page of August issue, note the announcement of Bison II feature that will be out   in Septemeber.

On my bench, June 2012.

Well, no summer in Bergen, so not much motivation to do models, but I have some stuff around.

Staghound AA in 48th scale is finished, I will post some final images later.

Staghound Mk.I arrived a week ago and I started building it for Armorama (a full build review will follow).

Briefly - it is an excellent little kit, but you need to do weld seams on the hull and on the Mk.I turret as well. I really like the idea of having all my Staghounds in Canadian markings, so I will finish that one as Mk.I with rockets :)

As for more or less finished stuff - I am continuing work on L4500R. The build is finished and paintwork started. That one would be a post war truck in civil use.  Here is where I am now - the chipping was done with a combination of Hairpray and Salt methods.

1/48 scale Sd.Kfz.10

A few days ago I got a Demag kit for review at It is made by new company and it was really interesting to see what they offer. The full build review would appear at Armorama soon but if you are impatient     - еhe quality is OK, but not up to Tamiya or Bronco rank.

I forgot to put smth next to it for the size comparison, but it is as high as MIG pigment jar.
